Alexander de Corneille
Be Free, Dear One
Freedom Born of Flames, and Sheltered under Cold Moonlight.
Memories, like a Shattered Mirror
He remembers the sickly smell of ceruleum, and a gnawing aching pain in his bones. He remembers unending blackness encompassing his consciousness, and a warm, understanding voice that beckoned him from it. And he remembers waking up on a soft bed with speckled red sheets and white pillows with a pang of hunger deep in his gut that likes of which he had never known, and knew that it was the crimson on the sheets that would sate it.
And that’s it
Perhaps Alexander de Corneille should be bothered by this lack of concrete identifying memory. Most souls are formed in their childhood and tempered into their adult form by them after all but... He isn’t. He has no desire to fill these gaps and for once isn’t curious about them. The only bit that raises questions about it to his academic mind is this wave of souls mistaking him for some Ishgardian Noble he isn’t, for he’s sure he’d remember that, and the garish burnt skin across both his hands he keeps hidden from all but the most prying eyes.
But even then those do not raise enough questions to warrant more than a passing interest and why pay mind to that when magic is in the world?
So he doesn’t even mention it, simply correcting people when they call him this... Alexois name and hiding those burnt husks under leather gloves all the while throwing himself into his research. Into his goal of being like the wizard heroes of legend. Helping people understand the universe all the while aware of the price of the blood hunger in him, and what balancing that will need.
He is lucky to have been found by Madam Havran, the elder viera... something who has taken him and another under her wing. Else he is sure he’d be a floundering mad corpse eating fool by now, and not slowly coming into powers he doesn’t understand yet and watching as his reflection grows weaker and weaker each night.
Soon it wouldn’t be there at all, and much like his memory, he doesn’t think he’ll mind.
He never liked seeing his eyes to begin with

I’m chill with all walk ups and random tells, though I prefer tells so the sound can alert me. Feel free to hit me up on Discord if you want to plot! Souls of Note
Below is a list of those Alexander has met upon his travels and through rp, curated so that even with his current difficulties he can at least piece together who is stalwart friend and who is terrible enemy. If you are not listed here, but we’ve interacted a bit, more interaction may be needed before he commits your name to paper.
Friends
Eloise Havran: A mysterious viera the elezen simply refers to as his patron. Madam Havran is a force rarely seen across eorzea. Centuries worth of knowledge rest behind her one impassive silver eye, leading many a soul who catches a rare glimpse of her to wonder what exactly she wants. Alexander is sure it’s good. Though he may be blinded by his schoolboy crush.
Korina Voltanescu: An Ul’dah information broker from the frigid Garlean North, Korina is a strange friend to have made in his cold hungry nights. Having seen Alexander feeding himself, instead of calling the guards she invited him to tea. They spoke of lengths about curses, more specifically about memory loss. Now he counts her as a friend and ally, always willing to help him cover for his thirst. He only hopes it is without cost.
Kinara Miret-Njer: A young viera rouge raised in Kugane who befriended the skittish, excitable scholar on one of his first nights in the city She is cheerful, bright, and a bit more keen on bloodshed than he’d think he’d mind. But yet here they are, friends.
Veszdaer Zuaval: A mischievous yet charming scholar Alexander met in the shroud. Though he does not understand Veszdaer or his traveling companions stange third person speak, he appreciates their honesty, jokes and how they seem to be one of the few souls they’ve met in eorzea that doesn't call them Alexois.
Altanni Kagon: A grave robber who after unearthing Alexander’s rather unorthodox emergency hiding place once formed an odd friendship with the odd man. She, beyond Madam Havran, might be the only soul to know exactly what he’s given up for his freedom.
Cuore Mysidia: Though he has not, at least in his fractured memory, met the Viera who holds this name. He would recognize her immediately if he heard her voice. The only other guiding voice he heard when his patron beckoned him to true freedom, and the only one who spoke of home as something other than kindling for a fire long overdue.
Ni’Huliji: A friend, and fellow member of Nocte Immortalem, as well as the Muertes Cult, Alexander views her as a fellow in Science and exploration, and can't wait to accidentally flashbang himself again.
Aludove Leauciment: A friend and confidant, Aludove is an instrumental figure in making sure Alexander remembers things. Having Gifted him his current favorite notebook.
Known Individuals
Orlaux Voss: This Elder elezen is another confused soul who is sure that Alexander is this Alexois fellow. A sadness permeates all interaction with him, seeming to seep from his very bones, but he is not outwardly hostile like others. Something stirs Alexander to want to help him.
Caolan Haustefort: Alexander know remarkably little about the other soul who claims Madam Havran’s patronage. He knows he is also a Viera, that he enjoys flying and for some reason looks at Alexander with something akin to pity. He detests that.
Theja Miret-Njer: A strange, bloody, terrifying woman Alexander met in his times in the far east. Unfortunately, the mother of a friend of his, and one with connections among Kugane’s underworld that scares the daylights out of him. He does owe her a favor for helping him return to Eorzea.
Isramoix Greystone: The noble soul who stopped the drunkard sylveret from beating Alexander’s ass. Though they did not speak much, Alexander saw pity in the mans eyes.
Aeric Laudrup: A fellow in the field of information, whose fiance apparently is one of the souls hunting his doppleganger. Though his gut is distrustful of the elezen for no clear reason, he cannot bring himself to shelf this man’s beloved’s worries so easily. He’s sworn to bring up his concerns to his patron.
Kingsley Solomon: Though the amnesiac Elezen has yet to meet with his old coworker again, he’s found the name familiar when uttered by his current terrifying traveling companion (Mr. Valeroyant). Or at least, that’s how it was before he met up with his former coworker under his Isaac masque at Vampyras, where the others mention of the war front connected enough mental dots for him to snap his memory back into place. Leading the Elezen to beg the man to tell him if he killed his brother or not. Alexander has no memory of this at all.
Ruari Ilpheti: Alexois would have known this man, would have known of his oath, his obligation to help him. Hells, he would have even considered him a friend, a rare thing indeed in those past times. Those memories, however, are gone. And Alexander doesn’t know his blight.
Saulden Windgate: Though he has only ever had one meeting in memory with Mr. Windgate, Alexander considers the skittish man a kindred spirit. A scholar, a wizard like himself, one willing to give the Elezens strange patchwork aether a look. Even if he doesn’t remember that funny joke the fellow must have told him, he does thank him silently for focusing his research on the strange topic of Dragons.
Phillippe de Dzemael: Another soul who mistook Alexander for his deceased cousin Alexois, at least this one didn’t swing at him and was otherwise good conversation. He hopes to talk to him at length again sometime soon.
Enemies
Sylveret de Dzemael: A brutal drunkard claiming to be an Ishgardian noble that Alexander has stumbled across a few times. Though he has his doubts about his claims of nobility, Alexander cannot deny the skill at with which the brute swings a punch, as he has many a time at him. He is who Alexander first heard his doppelgangers name from, and has done his best to avoid him ever since..
Sasha Savatier: A man who seems to have it out for the scholar. Hunting him not as a detective might, but as an exterminator might. He serves house Dzemael, but otherwise Alexander knows nothing of the gent out for his blood.
Regis Malheureux: Madam Havran though cold and distant from the active world of Eorzea, is a kind and gentle soul who wishes for the world to grow and live so beautifully. To watch souls make mistakes, seek forgiveness and change. She has forgiveness to spare as well, but she too is mortal and has flaws and exceptions. Alexander has only heard her speak of Regis once, but it was enough for him to swear to end him, and ease his patrons' woes.
Alice lux Varago: The things he has seen this woman do do not deserve to see shadow, let alone the light of day.
Fellows of Unknown State
Danica Voss: A half elezen woman from Ala Mhigo who holds a striking resemblance towards the man.
Ilvex Valeroyant: Though Alexander has only met this elder Dragoon recently in passing, he cannot shake the feeling that they know each other - and far from well. Ilvex has done nothing actually to inspire this fear yet Alexander cannot contain the primal terror that takes him whenever they work together. But they must, for what more noble a goal is there in the world than helping this man reunite with his daughter.
The Magpie: A master thief from parts unknown that seems to have made it their personal mission to “Thwart” Alexander’s “Nefarious Plans.” Alex, for his part, hasn’t a single clue what they’re on about, and is even more confused by their actions. He didn’t think thwarting including gift giving?
